CSUB Hits the Beach in Irvine for Pair of Matches

BAKERSFIELD, Calif.  – The CSU Bakersfield beach volleyball team will look to bounce back this weekend in a tri-dual in Irvine, Calif.  The `Runners will face Irvine Valley College in an exhibition match on Saturday, Apr. 2, followed by a contest with the University of Utah the same day.

"We are looking forward to playing this weekend, especially because we identified what was the root of our struggles last week and we are working hard on them," said Cesar Benatti, CSUB's Head Coach.  "Practices have been good and we are pretty sure we will be able to perform better than we have the last events."

Bakersfield will play Irvine Valley College (6-7) in an exhibition match, meaning it will not count for or against the `Runners on their record.  However, it is still another great opportunity to improve their skills against good competition.

"IVC is a top Junior College in California that always have good players, and on top of the good competition, it's an opportunity to watch some possible transfer recruits," said Benatti.

Following the IVC match, CSUB will take on the University of Utah. The Utes (5-8) have some great experience this season already having faced four teams ranked in the Top 10 this year in UCLA, USC, Grand Canyon and Stanford.

"Utah is a program on the rise and, as any Pac-12 school, has a lot of depth and will be a great opponent as well."

Saturday's exhibition between CSUB and IVC is scheduled for first serves on five courts at noon (PT).  The `Runners will then take on Utah at 1 p.m. Check back here at GoRunners.com for finalized scores and a full recap at the end of the day.
