CSUB Set To Host CSUN In Doubleheader

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The CSU Bakersfield beach volleyball team returns to the Barnes Beach Volleyball Complex at the Student Rec Center this week for a pair of home matches.  The Roadrunners will host CSUN in a doubleheader on Friday, Mar. 4, after starting the season off strong last week in the same venue.

"We are very excited that we get to play CSUN early in the season," said Cesar Benatti, Head Coach of the `Runners. "The original schedule was different, but given the situation we had to change.  Playing a team from our conference is a good way to continue to improve. Historically we've always had great battles against CSUN and this time will be no different. We really look forward to keeping our momentum going."

The `Runners are coming off big wins against Pacific (5-0), and against Vanguard (4-1), who is the #1 ranked NAIA team in the country.  Along with these two showings, the Roadrunners played close matches against Pepperdine, who is ranked #14 in the country, but ended up losing 3-2.

CSUN has a 2-2 record to begin the 2022 season.  The Matadors have already faced three Pac-12 opponents, including a 4-1 win against Oregon this past Saturday.

The `Runners and Matadors played three matches against each other in the 2021 season, with Bakersfield going 2-1.  All three matches last year were decided by 1 team point.  CSUB looks to add two more home wins against CSUN this week.

First serve on Friday is set for 11 a.m. (PT), followed by the second match of the doubleheader taking place at 1 p.m. To follow along for live updates and scores, follow @csub_beach on Instagram for more.

Fans are welcomed back to the Barnes Beach Complex for this week's match and, as always, admission to CSUB's beach volleyball matches is free. Social distancing is recommended and when that is not possible, fans should wear face masks. CSUB Athletics' General Fan Attendance Policies are always in effect.
