Bakersfield's Chance Rich Bows Out of NCAA Championships

Detroit, Mich. – CSU Bakersfield wrestler #20 Chance Rich saw his run at the NCAA Championships come to an end in heartbreaking fashion, when a late stall penalty awarded a victory to Pac-12 rival #11 Devan Turner of Oregon State.

Rich opened the day with a win over Northern Iowa's #11 Kyle Biscoglia. The `Runner grappler took down Biscoglia in the opening period and never trailed en route to his second victory of the weekend. After a scoreless second, Biscoglia chose top and secured the ride time point but a late Rich escape sealed a 3-1 victory for the Bakersfield wrestler.

Rich & Turner were meeting for the second time in just two weeks, after the former knocked off the latter in overtime during a Pac-12 semifinal in Tempe, Ariz. The two seemed destined for overtime again, in a bout that featured an abundance of caution and little offense, before a stalling warning against Rich as both wrestlers stepped out of bounds while engaged awarded a point and the match to Turner.

The Bakersfield sophomore finishes his NCAA run with a 2-2 record and two wins shy of All-American honors. He is now 5-4 at the NCAA Championships in his Roadrunner career after a 3-2 performance during the 2021 Tournament.

On the tournament's first day Rich fell to #13 Brock Hudkins of Indiana, before rebounding to slip past #29 Jake Gliva of Minnesota. He ends this season with an overall record of 17-6, after missing much of the first semester with a lower body injury.

In reaching the NCAA Tournament, Rich extended CSUB's streak of qualifying at least one wrestler to nationals to 48-consecutive seasons.
