`Runners Head to Malibu for Pair of Tough Matches

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The CSU Bakersfield beach volleyball team will put its four-game win streak on the line this week when the Roadrunners play a pair of rematches against tough foes. CSUB will head to Malibu, Calif. to take on No. 18 Pepperdine and Concordia Irvine, teams the `Runners have split a pair of close matches against this season.

"We're super excited to play Pepperdine and Concordia again," said Cesar Benatti, CSUB's Head Coach. "Both games were extremely competitive, had us play to our limit, and definitely made us better. For this weekend we expect nothing less than that. We've been getting better every day in practice and I feel that the team is super excited to go to battle with Pepperdine and CUI. We've been studying and practicing ways to be successful against both of them and we can't wait to see how that's going to be Saturday."

CSUB (6-1) will open up its weekend action on Saturday, Mar. 19, against the 18th-ranked Pepperdine Waves (7-2). The two teams met in Bakersfield on Feb. 26 and battled to a 3-2 decision that went to the visiting Waves. Bakersfield's No. 3 pairing of Paige Calvin and Hayley McCluskey and the `Runner 4s, Anna Unke and Brooke Boiseau, were victorious in the last meeting against Pepperdine.

Concordia University Irvine (12-2) is a talented NCAA Division II team that has Division I wins against Nebraska, CSUN, San Jose State, Utah, and Santa Clara. The `Runners hosted the Eagles last week and CSUB edged CUI for a 3-2 victory in Bakersfield.

Saturday's match between CSUB and Pepperdine is scheduled for 12 p.m. (PT) first serves in Malibu. The `Runners will then take on CUI at 2 p.m. Links to follow along with live stats are available at GoRunners.com/Live.
