Roadrunners Ready for MPSF Championship Meet

BAKERSFIELD – After a month of preparation, training and tapering CSU Bakersfield's swimming and diving teams will open the 2022 Mountain Pacific Sports Championships, Wednesday, Feb. 16 at East Los Angeles College in Monterey Park, Calif. The Roadrunners will compete at the MPSF Championships for the first time since 2013, after spending seven seasons as members of the Western Athletic Conference, rejoining their current league at the conclusion of the 2020 campaign.

"Like everyone, we've had our ups and downs over the past two years since COVID canceled our 2020 WAC Championship," said CSUB Director of Swimming Chris Hansen. "Despite all the challenges we've grow individually and as a team, opening eyes across the MPSF and around the swimming world. This week's championship meet is the end of a tremendous era of CSUB swimming, but also the first step towards an exciting new chapter for our program."

This week's conference meet will be the last for Bakersfield women Lauren Carson, Autumn D'Arcy, Courtney Linton, Tabea Mose and Ariane Skeggs.

D'Arcy will graduate as one of the most successful scholar-athletes in school history. She currently boasts 61 career victories, a CSUB Division I record, seven school record times and seven conference championships.

Earlier this season, D'Arcy placed second at the Toyota US Open. She's also the reigning WAC Swimmer of the Year and is a favorite to advance to this season's NCAA Championships.

Mose & Skeggs each earned Second-Team All-WAC accolades in 2020, while Carson is one of the most decorated divers in recent program history.

Senior men Julio Alcantar, Ryan Brimer, Alex Dragan, Loren Gillilan, Antonio Milin, Linus Richter and Kris Rogic will also close out their CSUB careers.

Brimer, Gillilan and Rogic have a combined 16 All-League honors and have represented CSUB at the National Level over the past five seasons. Rogic has also competed on the international stage, swimming at the 2019 World Championships and the 2020 European Championships.

ROADRUNNER WOMEN TO WATCH…
* Autumn D'Arcy enters the MPSF Championship Meet as the league's top qualifier in the 100 Butterfly, the 200 Butterfly and the 200 Individual Medley. She also owns the MPSF's second fastest time in the 100 Backstroke this season. D'Arcy won three individual titles at the 2020 WAC Championships to earn Swimmer of the Year honors.
* Mikayla Popham is the league's top qualifier in the 200 Freestyle and holds the season's second fastest times in the 50 Freestyle, the 100 Freestyle and the 500 Freestyles. Popham was the 2020 WAC Champion in the 200 and 500 Freestyles to win conference Freshman of the Year accolades.
* Danielle Albright qualified eighth in the 100 Breaststroke and 12^th in the 200 Breaststroke. She'll also swim the 200 Individual Medley in Los Angeles.
* Lorena Jerebic is among the top-15 qualifiers in both the 100 and 200 Butterfly events.
* Ariane Skeggs is a candidate to final in three events, qualifying among the top-20 in the 200, 500 and 1650 Freestyles.

ROADRUNNER MEN TO WATCH…
* Loren Gillilan enters the meet ranked sixth in the 100 Butterfly and eighth in the 200 Butterfly, after competing in the former at the US Olympic Trials earlier this season.
* Kris Rogic is among the favorites in both backstroke events, qualifying eighth in the 100 and 12^th in the 200. Rogic is also expected to compete at this summer's European Championships.
* Ryan Brimer qualified sixth in his best event, the 200 Freestyle. He's also in the mix as the 23^rd fastest qualifier in the 100 Freestyle.
* Three more Bakersfield men bring top-15 qualifying times to the MPSF Championship meet. Lars Hanna ranks 10^th in the 400 Individual Medley, while Christoph Horky is the 11^th seed in the 200 Breaststroke and Antonio Milin qualified 15^th in the 100 Breaststroke.
* Diver Dyson Modica enters the weekend as the number four seed on the 3-Meter board and the five seed on the 1-Meter board. He'll also compete on the platform for the first time this season.

A LOOK AHEAD…
Select Roadrunner swimmers will continue the 2021-22 campaign at the National Invitational Championships in Elkhart, Ill., on March 10-13. The NCAA Championship meet begins in Atlanta, Ga., on March 16.
