CSUB Swim & Dive Host UCSB For Home Dual-Meet

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – Coming off impressive individual results at the Big Al Invitational in Princeton, the Roadrunners return home for the first time since late October to host MPSF Championship hopefuls UC Santa Barbara. Although it will prove to be a tough dual-meet for CSUB, the `Runners will be looking to carry their success in dual meets this season into the upcoming matchup against the Gauchos.

Quotes from Director of Swimming Chris Hansen
  • "UCSB is the team to beat in the MPSF, as they are strong on both the men's and women's side. We are coming off a tremendous mid-season meet at Princeton and are hoping to ride the momentum of that meet to put up strong times against the Gauchos."
  • "The men will look to Dyson, Antonio, and Vili to win some events and help the `Runners ride their waves and get pumped."
  • "The women will have to do the same if we want to beat a tough UCSB team. Mikayla and Chelaine are key swimmers on the women's side."
Weekend Schedule
  • vs UC Santa Barbara
  • Saturday, Dec. 17, 1 p.m.
  • Bakersfield, Calif.
Notables
  • The `Runners most recently traveled across the country to New Jersey for the Princeton-hosted Big Al Invitational where standouts Mikayla Popham and Vili Sivec highlighted the day for CSUB's swim and dive teams.
  • As a result of their performances, Popham and Sivec both captured MPSF Athlete of the Week honors for their respective teams. Popham reset CSUB's record time in the 200 yard backstroke while Sivec broke the school's 200 yard butterfly record enroute to also posting a time that stands as an early potential qualifier for the NCAA championships.
  • The dual-meet will feature sixteen total events beginning with a 200 Medley Relay and ending with a 400 Free Relay with two diving events strewn into the mix during the day.
  • Along with the impressive results from the Big Al Invitational, the `Runners will be looking to take inspiration from their 2-0 record in dual-meets this season to continue the trend against a UC Santa Barbara team that will prove to be one of CSUB's greatest challenges this season.
