Landin Wins 141-Pound Title at Menlo Open

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The Cal State Bakersfield wrestling team kicked off the 2022-23 season with a full day of action at the Menlo Open. One Roadrunner earned a first-place finish while three others finished in the top three of their weight classes.

Notables

Tyler Deen and Jose Landin both went 3-0 on the way to meeting each other in the 141-pound Championship match. Landin pulled ahead 6-3 in the second period. A couple escapes drew Deen within one point, but Landin sealed the 6-5 decision, taking the title.
Richard Castro-Sandoval (125) went 3-1 to finish second, dropping a 6-1 decision to Stanford's Nico Provo in the Championship match.
Johnathon Viveros (149) lost his second-round match against teammate Josh Brown, then won four-straight bouts, including three by falls, on the way to a third-place finish.
Louie Ramos (141) posted a fourth-place finish, giving CSUB three of the top four placers in the 141-pound weight class.
