CSUB Hosts Fresno Pacific, Pepperdine on Senior Day

Bakersfield, Calif. – After a layoff of more than a full month for the CSU Bakersfield women, and well over two months for the Roadrunner men, the swimming and diving teams finally return to action at the John S. Hillman Aquatic Center on Saturday, Jan. 15 for a noon meet against Fresno Pacific. Saturday's dual meet represents CSUB's final tune-up ahead of the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championships, next month in Los Angeles. Pepperdine is also scheduled to compete on the women's side.

"We're excited to race two great teams and compete one more time before our conference championship," said CSUB Director of Swimming Chris Hansen. "We'll need our best efforts to win some undoubtedly tough races, and both meets this weekend. The results will help us make decisions on our conference teams, especially on the men's side."

The meet also serves as Bakersfield's Senior Day competition, representing the final home swims for 12 decorated Roadrunner senior scholar-athletes.

"Like every year, this meet will be bittersweet," Hansen explained. "What this class has had to overcome continues to amaze me – from navigating COVID to train, to missing the 2021 season, this groups determination to persevere and finish what they started has made me prouder than anyone could tell. The future is so bright for all of them!"

Julio Alcantar, Ryan Brimer, Alex Dragan, Loren Gillilan, Antonio Milin, Linus Richter and Kris Rogic will all graduate on the men's side. Alcantar, Brimer, Dragan, Gillilan and Rogic all returned for their additional COVID season after the circumstances of 2021 put their senior season on hold.

On the women's side, diver Lauren Carson and swimmers Autumn D'Arcy, Courtney Linton, Tabea Mose and Ariane Skeggs will wrap up their home careers this weekend.

The Roadrunner men enter the weekend with a 2-0 record in dual meet swims this season, while the women are 2-1 overall.

NEWS & NOTES:
  • The Roadrunner women have not competed since a Dec. 11 dual meet at Fresno State, while the Bakersfield men have been idle since November's Dixie State Invitational. • Sophomore Mikayla Popham earned MPSF Swimmer of the Week honors last time out, after winning the 200 Freestyle and the 200 Individual Medley in a dual meet at Fresno State on Dec. 11. Popham was a three-time Western Athletic Conference Swimmer of the Week in 2019-20, before earning WAC Freshman of the Year honors.
  • CSUB leads the MPSF with four women's Swimmer of the Week selections. Autumn D'Arcy has won the award three times and now boasts eight career Swimmer of the Week awards.
  • Autumn D'Arcy won a silver medal at the Toyota US Open, becoming the first CSUB swimmer to reach an A-Final, or medal, at a USA Swimming event.
  • Danielle Albright, Lorena Jerebic and Arianne Skeggs have combined for 10 dual meet victories this season, including one each in the team's last outing at Fresno State.
