Cross Country Opens Season at Fresno Invitational

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – For the first time since Nov 2, 2019, at the WAC cross country championships, CSU Bakersfield women's cross country will be represented in competition.

Marcia Mansur-Wentworth, Director of Cross Country, says "the team is looking to shake off the rust of the past year without organized training and no racing but is excited for competition."

Bakersfield opens its 2021 campaign at the Fresno City College Fresno Invitational, Saturday at Woodward Park. A team of nine Roadrunners will toe the line at 8:30 a.m. for the 5 kilometers race.

NCAA West Regional qualifier AJ Frausto leads CSUB in her final season of cross country. A graduate senior, Frausto has "set the pace for her teammates in workouts."

This race marks the Roadrunner debut for a quartet of Bakersfield city natives in Ysabel Gamon, Estella Magallanes, Neyda Martinez, and Alicia Muralles.

Frausto, Gamon, Martinez, Muralles, and 2019 returner Alyssa Diaz are expected to finish in the CSUB scoring five this weekend. Mansur-Wentworth said that "our expectations are to embrace the opportunity and gage our fitness level – each race will lay foundation for the future."
