CSUB Headed to Northridge for Regular Season Finale

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – Only one regular season competition remains for the CSU Bakersfield beach volleyball team as the Roadrunners are fine tuning for next week's Big West Championship. The `Runners will head south to compete in a tri-dual between CSUN and Long Beach State on Saturday, Apr. 24, in Northridge, Calif.

"This weekend's games are against some of those teams that we look forward to playing every time," said Cesar Benatti, Head Coach of the `Runners. "Playing CSUN is always fun and all of our games against them are a battle, and we take them very seriously. We hope to have a positive result just as last time in the Big West Challenge. The same way against Long Beach State. We competed really well versus them in the Challenge, and we hope to make it an even better game this Saturday."

Benatti anticipates this weekend's contests will help his team to get ready for the ultimate goal of the season: "Those two matches are also really important to prepare us to the Big West Tournament, which is next week already. Like I've been saying, the goal is to keep getting better, and we will play hard to make this happen."

CSUB (4-6) and CSUN (9-12) have met twice this year already in two different formats. In the final game on the Big West Challenge on Mar. 27, the `Runners bested the Matadors in a tight match, 3-2. Just last week, CSUN came to Bakersfield for a pairs tournament in which the `Runners enjoyed the most overall success, but a pair from Northridge came out on top as the ultimate champions of the day.

Long Beach State (14-12) remained No. 18 in the AVCA Top 20 rankings this week and the squad boasts four wins over ranked opponents on the year. CSUB and LBSU met at the Challenge last month and, for the first time in program history, the `Runners took a team point from The Beach in a 4-1 loss.

First serve on Saturday is set for 11 a.m. (PT) with the `Runners and Matadors squaring off at the CSUN Beach Volleyball Complex. CSUB and LBSU will battle at 1 p.m. before the `Runners return to Bakersfield to make their final preparations for the Big West Championship.
