Wrestling Enters Pac-12 Dual Season

`Runners to Host Oregon State Friday, Travel to Stanford Saturday

Bakersfield, Calif. – The CSU Bakersfield wrestling team will attempt to run its current winning streak to four when it opens Pac-12 competition this weekend against Oregon State and Stanford. The Roadrunners will host OSU at the Icardo Center on Friday, Feb. 7 at 7 p.m., before traveling to Palo Alto for a 3:00 p.m. dual on Saturday afternoon. The matchups represent the first two of four-straight conference contests for CSUB as the team enters the stretch run of the regular season.

"Conference duals are always exciting and challenging," said CSUB Head Coach Manny Rivera. "We've been bringing great effort, enthusiasm and focus to the mat lately and that will need to continue this weekend."

The `Runners fell narrowly in last season's meeting with the Beavers, 20-17, and will be looking for redemption in the friendly confines of the Icardo. Dominic Ducharme, Russell Rohlfing and Jarrod Snyder each earned individual victories in the dual.

The Beavers have lost three-straight matches to fall to 5-4 in dual meets this season and 0-1 in Pac 12 meets. OSU is led by #16 Devan Turner (19-9) at 133 and #25 Grant Willits (17-7) at 141.

Stanford enters the weekend ranked #21 in the NWCA and boasts an 8-2 overall dual meet record. The Cardinal lost last weekend against conference rival Arizona State to fall to 1-1 in Pac-12 competition. They regularly run three top-10 wrestlers to the mat in #3 Real Woods (14-1) at 141, #4 Shane Griffith (22-0) at 165 and #8 Nathan Traxler (16-3) at 197.

Stanford was ranked #22 when the `Runners beat them 20-13 in Bakersfield a season ago.

"Both Oregon State and Stanford are very good teams and we'll have to be at our best," said Rivera. "The ranked opponents are significant challenges for our guys, but they're also significant opportunities for us to prove we can wrestle with the best and on the national stage."

Rohlfing is certainly garnering national attention following a four-bout run that has seen him concede just two points to his opponents at 149. After winning by forfeit in the dual meet with Duke University, the senior has reeled off three straight wins by a combined score of 33-2. His record now stands at 16-7 on the year and he boasts 79 career wins, placing him in a tie for 33rd All-Time in school history.

In the heavyweight division Snyder is also rounding into form for Bakersfield. The redshirt junior has won three of his last four bouts, losing only to #26 Brian Andrews of Wyoming. Snyder has allowed just a single point in each of those three victories, outscoring his opponents 17-3 on aggregate.

Ducharme picked up a key win at Fresno State after taking the mat with a chance to clinch the dual for Bakersfield. Ducharme executed his role as closer to perfection, dominating the Bulldog's Isaiah Perez in a 13-0 major decision. The win gives him two in a row and three in his last four at 197.

Jacob Thalin has also won two straight matchups for the `Runners at 165. He posted methodical decisions over both MacCoy Flanagan of Northern Colorado and Ricky Padilla of Fresno State in his last two trips to the mat. He'll get a difficult draw in Stanford's Griffith on Saturday but has three wins over ranked opponents already this season.

Albert Urias picked up his first career dual victory against Fresno State. He outlasted Adam Kemp 7-4 in last weekend's contest.

Chance Rich and Angelo Martinoni remain ranked on the Coaches' Panel lists for this season. Both will face tough draws this weekend and once again be called upon to wrestle critical, momentum swinging bouts for CSUB.

Following this weekend's competition Bakersfield will begin gearing up for the Feb. 16 Feud on the Field against Arizona State. The `Runners knocked off #25 Fresno State in the inaugural event a season ago.

This year's event will once again take place on the Main Soccer Field and is set for 12:00 p.m.
