Bakersfield Set for Dual with Rival Fresno State

Bakersfield, Calif. – CSU Bakersfield wrestling returns to action on Sunday, Feb. 2, when they head north to face Central Valley rival Fresno State, at the Save Mart Center, in a dual meet set for 2 p.m. The two teams will meet for the first time since the Roadrunners knocked off the #25 Bulldogs, 18-12, in the inaugural Feud on the Field last February. Bakersfield outlasted Northern Colorado on Jan. 26, improving to 3-4 on the season, while FSU has won four-straight lifting their record to 7-5 overall.

"We always look forward to duals with our instate rivals," said Head Coach Manny Rivera. "The familiarity creates intensity and we'll have to wrestle our best if we want bragging rights over a good Fresno State team that makes very few mistakes."

Russell Rohlfing, who won both of his matches last weekend and outscored his opponents 23-0, will draw Fresno State's Greg Gaxiola, at 149, in the duals lone projected bout between ranked opponents. Rohlfing ranks #26 in the latest Track Wrestling rankings and has won six of his last eight matches to improve to 15-7 this season. He has allowed just one point against in those six victories.  Gaxiola, meanwhile, is 12-6 and rated #30 in the Track Wrestling poll.

Angelo Martinoni is slated to represent the `Runners at 141 for the third straight dual. He's expected to square off with #14 DJ Lloren in a key swing match for Bakersfield, while Chance Rich will face Fresno State's Gary Joint at 133 in another critical bout.

Redshirt junior Dominic Ducharme has won two of his three dual matches since the start of the new year. Last weekend, he was bloodied early, but hung tough to defeat UNC's Seth Bogulski on the strength of four separate takedowns. The win was the 50th of Ducharme's illustrious career in Bakersfield.

Jarrod Snyder has won five of seven, including a pair of dual victories in competitions with Duke and Northern Colorado. He's improved his overall record to 13-8 on the year and his dual mark to 4-3. Snyder is expected to draw FSU's highest-ranked wrestler in #9 Josh Hokit. Hokit is 14-3 in the heavyweight division this season.

Wyatt Gerl and Jacob Thalin each won dual matches against UNC, aiding the `Runners to their early and insurmountable 11-0 lead in the meet. Thalin improved to 11-9 with his win over the Bear's MacCoy Flanagan. Gerl came from behind to defeat UNC's Nathan Moore for his second dual win in his last three tries.

The Bulldogs are scheduled to face 18th-ranked Iowa State on Friday, Jan. 31 and will compete in a dual against the Air Force Academy (12 p.m.) immediately prior to their contest with Bakersfield.

Following this weekend's dual at Fresno State, the `Runners will dive into Pac 12 competition with four-straight duals against conference opponents.

That stretch culminates when Bakersfield hosts #4 Arizona State in the second-annual Feud on the Field. Like last season, the Feud will take place inside the CSUB Soccer Stadium with a wrestling mat placed near midfield.
