CSUB Beats Concordia in Regular Season Finale

NORTHRIDGE, Calif. – The CSU Bakersfield beach volleyball team finished the regular season on a high note on Friday as they shut out Concordia University Irvine this afternoon. The Roadrunners dropped their opening match of the day to CSUN 4-1.

"We started the day with some inconsistency against CSUN, and we didn't have our best match," said CSUB Head Coach Cesar Benatti. "In the second match of the day against Concordia, all of our pairs focused on the things that had not worked and we performed really well."

For the fourth time this season, seniors Mattison DeGarmo and Briannah Mariner beat CSUN. The duo knocked off the Matadors' top squad with matching 21-16 set victories. Rafa Bonifacio and Ally Barber took their No. 5 match to three sets but fell 15-8 in the clincher. Cameron Solberg and Milica Vukobrat pushed the first set into extras but were unable to take the set.

Everyone got into the action in the second match of the day against Concordia University Irvine. Mattison DeGarmo and Briannah Mariner made it a perfect Friday as they squeaked out a 23-21, 22-20 victory at the top spot. Cameron Solberg and Milica Vukobrat and Sidney Wicks and Hana Makanova both picked up their ninth victories of the season at the No. 2 and No. 3 pairs, respectively. Emily Hansen and Brooke Boiseau had no trouble at No. 4 (21-13, 21-19) and Ally Barber and Rafa Bonifacio breezed at the No. 5 spot 21-14, 21-10.

CSUB's eight victories this season matches last season's total with the Big West Championship still remaining. The Roadrunners will begin the Championship tournament on Friday, April 26 in Malibu.
