`Runners to Host Rutgers in Home Opener on Saturday

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The Roadrunner wrestling team is preparing for its first home dual of the season and against a tough opponent to boot. CSU Bakersfield will welcome Rutgers to the Icardo Center for a match at 3:30 p.m.

Series History – Rutgers

Saturday's match marks just the third time in CSUB's history the `Runners will face off against Rutgers. The first meeting came in 2013 when the visiting Scarlet Knights earned a 29-9 victory. During the 2017-18 season, Rutgers returned to the Icardo Center and edged CSUB, 26-15, to improve to 2-0 on the series.

Rutgers (3-0) is undefeated on the season, but faces its first road test of the year on Friday night at Fresno State. The Scarlet Knights boast five student-athletes to own Top 25 rankings at their respective weight classes.

`Runner Recap
The `Runners are looking for their first dual win of the season after suffering a pair of road losses to open the season. CSUB faced tough opponents on Opening Weekend in Minnesota and North Dakota State and the team had the last two weeks to learn from its mistakes.

Coming into this weekend's dual, redshirt senior Russell Rohlfing is ranked in the Top 20 in two different polls. The 149-pounder will lead CSUB into battle on Bakersfield's home mat against Rutgers.

The Match

Saturday's match is scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m. in the Icardo Center. Tickets are available at the door on Match Day or ahead of time at GoRunners.com/tickets.
