`Runners Return to Icardo Center Sunday

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – For the first time in over two months, the CSU Bakersfield wrestling team will be back at the Icardo Center on Sunday when they host Northern Colorado at 2:00 p.m.

"We look to build upon our win last week," said CSUB head coach Manny Rivera.  "We have a couple guys that need to get back on track and a few more that need to keep building.  Momentum is key during this stretch of the dual season."

Last Time Out
CSUB is coming off an impressive 24-11 dual victory over Cal Poly.  The Roadrunners won seven of the 10 matches contested including six of the final seven to pull away from the Mustangs.  Sean Nickell, Russell Rohlfing and Bryan Battisto all scored major decisions to make up half of CSUB's final total.  Carlos Herrera, Jacob Thalin, Dominic Ducharme and Jarrod Snyder all won by decision.  Snyder had won of the more exciting victories on the evening, as he scored the match-winning takedown with two seconds left and added two near fall points as time expired.

Scouting the Bears
Northern Colorado was defeated by Oregon State 27-12 in its last time on the mat.  The Bears have dropped their last three duals, falling to Columbia 19-13 and No. 3 Oklahoma State 47-0 before losing to the Beavers.  Northern Colorado's 125 pound wrestler, Rico Montoya is currently ranked 17th by the InterMat and finished second at the Southern Scuffle at the turn of the New Year.  At 197 pounds, Jacob Seely also got on the podium in Chattanooga as he took fifth in the event.

Nickell Returns to National Ranks, Rohlfing Holds Firm
After shutting out Cal Poly's Yoshi Funakoshi on Friday, redshirt senior Sean Nickell has climbed back into the InterMat national rankings at No. 20.  Redshirt junior Russell Rohlfing held firm at No. 18 in the FloWrestling ratings.

Nickell, a two-time NCAA national qualifier, has produced a 14-7 record at 133 pounds so far this season.  He also has a 2-0 record in Pac-12 Conference duals and has added a second-place finish at the Roadrunner Open and a fourth-place finish at the Southern Scuffle to his resume.

Rohlfing is also a two-time national qualifier and sports a 12-6 record so far this season.  The redshirt junior is coming off of a 13-1 major decision over the Mustangs' Tyler Schilling.  Rohlfing has defeated two top-10 competitors in his first season at 149 pounds.  He defeated Iowa's Pat Lugo, who was rated No. 6 at the time in Kent, Ohio and No. 7 Jarrett Degen of Iowa State at the Southern Scuffle.
