Beach Volleyball Sweeps Pair of Home Matches

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The CSU Bakersfield beach volleyball team evened its home record to 3-3 on Saturday as the Roadrunners defeated Sacramento State 4-1 and shutout Cal State LA 5-0 at the Barnes Beach Volleyball Complex at the Student Rec Center. 

"Today was a very good for us and a day we got our confidence back," said CSUB head coach Cesar Benatti.  "We played a lot more consistently than we have and executed every game plan we had for each pair.  These two wins are really important for the next few weeks that we have ahead of us."

CSUB 4, Sacramento State 1
The Roadrunners got their revenge on the Hornets after falling to Sacramento State last weekend.  Emily Lopes and Mattison DeGarmo got things off to a good start for CSUB.  The pair earned a dominating 21-12, 21-16 victory at the No. 4 position.  Sarah Garrow and Desiree Sukhov put the `Runners up 2-0 with a 21-19, 21-12 win at the No. 2 spot. 
Aleksandra Djordjevic and Briannah Mariner finished off Sacramento State with a 21-13, 21-14 victory at the No. 3 position.  Emily Hansen and Sydney Haynes also got into the act with a 21-17, 21-19 win at the No. 1 spot. 

Hannah Manzanares and Tasha Skabelund made quick work of the Hornets in the exhibition match, winning 21-11, 21-13.

CSUB 5, Cal State LA 0
CSUB shutout the Golden Eagles to earn their third such victory of the season.  Sarah Garrow and Desiree Sukhov earned their second victory of the day at the No. 2 position (21-10, 21-16).  Emily Lopes and Mattison DeGarmo completed an undefeated weekend as they won 21-18, 21-14 at the No. 4 position.    

Emily Hansen and Sydney Haynes also went 3-0 over the weekend as they won against the Golden Eagles, 21-18, 21-11.  Aleksandra Djodjevic and Briannah Mariner had no issues at the No. 3 position, defeating Cal State LA 21-4, 21-12.  Krista Hernandez and Ally Barber completed the sweep for CSUB with an easy 21-5, 21-16 win at No. 5.

The `Runners are back in action on Thursday at CSUN when they take on the Matadors at 11:00 a.m. and No. 16 Loyola Marymount University at 1:00 p.m.
