Beach Volleyball Splits on Senior Day

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The CSU Bakersfield beach volleyball team closed the regular season at the Barnes Beach Volleyball Complex on Saturday with a sweep of Vanguard University and a loss to CSUN. 

CSUB registered its sixth win of the season which ranks third in school history.  Emily Lopes and Mattison DeGarmo recorded two wins on the day to push their record to 10-12 for the season.  The 10 wins are tied for 12th in single-season CSUB history.  Prior to the first match of the day, CSUB's all-time wins leader, Sydney Haynes, Aleksandra Djordjevic and Emily Lopes for Senior Day.  

CSUB 5, Vanguard 0
For the third time this season, the Roadrunners swept the Lions of Vanguard.  Djordjevic and Briannah Mariner got things off on the right foot for CSUB as they recorded a 21-7, 21-16 victory at the No. 2 position, their first win of the year at that spot.  Mattison DeGarmo and Lopes picked up their ninth of the year as they recorded a 21-6, 21-16 victory at No. 4.  Playing together for the first time all season, Ally Barber and Sidney Wicks finished off the Lions with a 21-15, 21-6 victory at No. 5. 
Emily Hansen and Sydney Haynes also won 21-17, 21-13 at the top spot and Brooke Boiseau and Sarah Garrow completed the sweep with a 21-17, 21-17 victory at No. 3.

The `Runners lost their fourth match of the season to the Matadors, but it was a tight contest with three of the five matches going the full three sets.  Djordjevic and Mariner earned their second victory of the day as they came back to earn a 15-21, 21-15, 15-12 victory at No. 2.  Degarmo and Lopes won in straight sets at No. 3 (21-16, 21-19).  Krista Hernandez and Hannah Manzanares also won the exhibition match, 21-19, 21-17.

The `Runners head to the Big West Championships next weekend in Honolulu, Hawaii.  Action begins on Friday and continues through Sunday.
