`Runners Drop Pair of Matches Thursday

NORTHRIDGE, Calif. – The CSU Bakersfield beach volleyball team lost a pair of matches on Thursday as they began a long week.  The Roadrunners were edged by CSUN 3-2 and were defeated by No. 16 Loyola Marymount University 5-0.

In the opener against CSUN, Desiree Sukhov and Sarah Garrow earned their second victory over the Matadors in three matches this season at the No. 2 position with a 21-17, 21-19 victory.  Mattison DeGarmo and Emily Lopes improved their record to 8-9 by winning their fourth consecutive match and second straight over the Matadors.  The pair earned a 23-21, 21-10 victory at the No. 4 position.  CSUB held a 2-1 advantage after the first round of matches, but were unable to come away with the victory.

CSUB hung tough against the Lions, but were unable to win a match.  Sydney Haynes and Emily Hansen took LMU's top pair to three sets and Emily Lopes and Mattison DeGarmo pushed the Lions' No. 4 pair, but were defeated 24-22, 21-18.

CSUB will be back in action on Saturday in Long Beach.  The `Runners will have a tripleheader beginning with Long Beach City College at 1:45 p.m. and followed by a match with the University of Utah at 3:30 p.m.  CSUB will conclude the day against No. 6 Long Beach State at 5:15 p.m.
