Peers, Lee Pace `Runners To Close Sac State Invite

ROSEVILLE, Calif. – Behind senior Tori Peers' team-best round of 74, the Roadrunner women's golf team wrapped up the Sacramento State Invitational on Tuesday. CSU Bakersfield posted another solid result with fellow senior Ariel Lee pacing all `Runners on the tournament.

"We're happy to be heading home after grinding on the road for a week and a half," said Meghan Thomason, CSUB's Director of Golf. "Their scores don't reveal the resilience they showed today. Overall, I'm really proud of their efforts this tournament. We had some solid individual rounds and have a good plan for what to work on going into the end of the season."

Peers, a native of Grand Island, Neb., used a pair of birdies to keep her final-round score down on Tuesday. The senior came into a clubhouse with a tournament-best score of 74 (+2) for the `Runners and finished second for CSUB on the week with a 54-hole total of 231 strokes (+15).

Lee's 78 in the final round was the Singapore native's third score in the 70s of the tournament. The senior finished the Sac State Invite with 229 strokes (+13), ranking her in the Top 10 of CSUB's best-ever 54-hole tournaments for the fifth time in her career.

Sophomore Macey Mills came into the Sierra View Country Club clubhouse with a final score of 79 on Tuesday, her third 70s score of the tourney as well. The native of Bakersfield finished third for the `Runners at 234. Redshirt junior Sara Scheidt matched Mills' 79 and was only two strokes back to end the tournament.

Senior Julia Stewart's score of 83 closed her tournament with a total of 246 strokes. Playing as individuals, seniors Deedra Dollesin and April Chang posted solid results. Dollesin improved her career-best 54-hole tournament score by 19 strokes with a 238 in Roseville. Chang finished just one stroke behind Stewart after posting an 81 in the final round.

CSUB's top four scorers on Tuesday wrapped up the competition with a team score of 310, the squad's second-best of the tournament. The `Runners finished with a 54-hole score of 930 strokes in eighth place of eight teams.

After a busy stretch featuring 198 holes of golf in a nine-day span, the `Runners will get a short break before getting back to work. CSUB will host its only home event of the season next week with the team's annual dual against CSUN. The `Runners and Matadors will meet at Bakersfield Country Club for a single round of golf on Monday, Mar. 26. Tee times will start at 11 a.m. and fans are welcome to attend but are asked to respect BCC's dress code.
