‘Runners End Day One With Mills In The Top 10

ST. GEORGE, Utah – CSU Bakersfield's women's golf team opened the Thunderbird Invitational with one round of golf on Thursday. Macey Mills led the 'Runners through the first day of competition, completing the first round in the mid 70's.

"Not our best today," said Meghan Thomason, CSUB's Director of Golf. "Our scoring four were twelve over on the par 5's. We made it harder on ourselves than it should have been."

Round 1
Sophomore Mills led all 'Runners with a first-round score of 76 (+4) through 18-holes and holds an individual top 10 rank among the 70 women competing. Tori Peers and Sara Scheidt followed close behind with 78 (6+) apiece, while senior Ariel Lee rounded out the scoring four finishing with 81 (+9). Senior Julia Stewart posted a score of 88 in Round 1.

At the end of the first round, the 'Runners are tied in seventh place out of 11 teams. With a four-woman score of 313 (+25), Thomason says the squad is "definitely capable of going low on this course and a high finish is within reach."

The 'Runners will conclude the Thunderbird Invitational tomorrow morning with one final round of golf.
