Lee Leads `Runners In Final Round To Place Fifth

BOULDER CITY, Nev. – Behind senior Ariel Lee's round of even par, the CSU Bakersfield women's golf team drastically improved in its final round of the Jackrabbit Invitational on Tuesday. The performance earned the Roadrunners spots in CSUB's all-time record book in four different categories.

"I'm happy with the way the team bounced back from yesterday," said CSUB's Director of Golf, Meghan Thomason. "It feels good to move up the leaderboard. We are feeling positive about the way things are going heading into our next tournament in Utah on Thursday and Friday."

Four of the five `Runners competing at the Jackrabbit Invite, hosted by South Dakota State, posted their best scores of the tournament on Tuesday. Lee, a native of Singapore, led all `Runners with a score of 72 (E), tying for the third-best single-round score in CSUB's history.

Close behind Lee in Round 3 were senior Tori Peers and sophomore Macey Mills. The pair each scored 75 (+3) to wrap up the tournament while senior Julia Stewart's 78 rounded out the CSUB scoring four. Redshirt junior Sara Scheidt came into the clubhouse with an 82 on Tuesday.

CSUB's four-woman score of 300 (+12) in the final round ranks as the third-best all-time in team single-round score for the `Runners. On the tournament, Bakersfield placed fifth of nine teams with a three-round total of 928 strokes (+64). The mark is also tied for third-best in school history.

Lee snuck past Peers for the team lead with a 54-hole total of 226 (+10). The result tied the senior for 12th among 56 student-athletes in Nevada and ranks her in CSUB's Top 10 all-time for individual three-round tournament scores. Peers was just two strokes back to finish tied for 14th and she also claimed another spot in CSUB's Top 10 list.

Stewart, a Bakersfield native, wrapped up the tournament with 238 strokes while Mills used one more stroke than her teammate. Scheidt's 249 rounded out the CSUB performers for the week.

The Jackrabbit Invitational is wrapped up, but the `Runners will have little time to prepare for their next tournament. CSUB is headed to the Pizza Hut Lady Thunderbird Invitational, hosted by Southern Utah University, in St. George, Utah. The 54-hole tournament is scheduled for Mar. 15-16, so, the `Runners will head straight from Nevada to Utah in order to compete.
