STANFORD, Calif. – CSU Bakersfield's softball team dropped their final game 1-17 against Stanford on Sunday at the Stanford Easton Classic. The Roadrunners scored first, but a big second and third inning pushed the Cardinals past CSUB.
The 'Runners used a walk and single to put
Julea Cavazos and Madison Clark on second and first base, respectively with one out in the top of the first inning.
Paige Johnson collected the lone RBI for Bakersfield with a double down the left field line that brought Cavazos in and put the squad ahead 1-0.
Unfortunately, that would be it for the 'Runners offense as they were held to just two hits the rest of the way.
Summer Evans (0-9) took the loss for CSUB. Senior
Kaylynn Burt improved her batting average after a 50.0 percent weekend average (6-for-12) at the plate.
Maddy Dwyer (11-5) earned the victory for the Cardinal (18-8) as she pitched one inning without allowing a hit or earned run. Teaghan Cowles powered the Stanford attack, going 2-of-3, recording a RBI and earning three runs, while teammate Hannah Howell had a game-high four RBI.
With the conclusion of the five-game tournament, the Roadrunners (1-17) will have a week off before their home opener against San Diego Mar. 17-18. Bakersfield will play three games over two days at the CSUB Softball Complex.
