CSUB Welcomes Pepperdine to Hillman Aquatics Center

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The CSU Bakersfield women's swimming and diving team will be competing at the John S. Hillman Memorial Aquatics Center for the third straight weekend when its hosts Pepperdine on Friday afternoon.

The Roadrunners are coming off of a narrow 153-147 defeat against California Baptist last Saturday.  CSUB also finished in third out of four teams at the Roadrunner Invite, but did finish ahead of San Jose State for the first time in Director of Swimming Chris Hansen's tenure.

"Pepperdine gets better and better every year and under their new coach I think they will continue to grow," said Hansen.  "We are excited to swim some close races.  We are going to play with the lineup a bit so we can get some conference ideas on events and relays.  We are also hoping to see the divers step up and attack each dive."

Freshman Autumn D'Arcy has had no problems transition to college swimming.  The freshman from Redlands, Calif. was named the Western Athletic Conference Swimmer of the Week on Tuesday for her performance against the Lancers last week.  D'Arcy swam the second-best time in CSUB history in the 100-yard butterfly (54.80) to touch the wall first.  She also finished first in the 100 backstroke (57.46) and was part of the winning 400 freestyle relay team (3:30.44).  Abigail Abshire, Alisa Cooke and Jayssie Haynes also contributed to the victory.  After three weeks of competition, D'Arcy has the top times in the WAC in the 100 free (53.24), 100 fly and the 200 individual medley (2:05.62).

Haynes was also exceptional on Saturday, winning the 200 free (1:52.68) and the 200 breaststroke (2:19.25), while also taking second in the 200 IM (2:08.33).  Cooke was also victorious last Saturday as she swam the fastest 100 free (53.02).

Pepperdine has a 1-4 dual meet record entering Friday.  The Waves lost their opener to San Diego State and have been beaten twice by San Diego.  Pepperdine also split a pair of duals with Loyola Marymount, winning last Saturday 152-141.

Diver Taylor Basin is the reigning Pacific Coast Swim and Dive Conference Athlete of the Week after she one four diving events last weekend.  She has six first-places finishes on the 1-meter board and a single win in 3-meter.  Sophomore Amy Griffin has also earned conference recognition this season.  Griffin is the Waves' top competitor in the 50 free (24.67), 100 free (53.43), while also anchoring Pepperdine's top 400 medley relay squad (4:06.92).

Friday's dual will begin at 1:00 p.m.
