`Runners Post Top 10 Results In CSUB Golf History

CHICAGO – A three-stroke improvement from Round 1 to Round 2 helped CSU Bakersfield's golf team finish third at the Chi-Town Classic. The Roadrunners also tied their season-best round on Tuesday with a score of 320 as junior Macey Mills led the way en route to a third-place finish on the individual leaderboard.

"I was happy to see some improvement from the bottom half of the lineup," CSUB's Director of Golf, Meghan Thomason, said after the tournament. "Macey played some good golf this week. Tied for third is something to build upon going into the spring season. We are not where we need to be yet, but we will come back stronger after some hard work this offseason."

With her seventh round in the 70s this season, Mills paced the `Runners in Round 2 with a 78 (+6). The Bakersfield native's two-round total of 153 strokes (+9) landed Mills in CSUB's Top 10 all-time for 36-hole tournament score. She also placed third overall in Chicago, only two strokes behind the individual medalist.

Freshman Juliana Gomez wound up tied for seventh on the tournament after her round of 80 on Tuesday. The native of Upland, Calif. shot 158 on the week, just five strokes behind Mills. Redshirt senior Sara Scheidt improved three strokes from Monday's first round, tying Gomez with an 80. Scheidt tied for 13th overall with 163 strokes.

A pair of 82s from Vanessa Watkins and Jenni Chun found the pair of `Runners tied just inside the Top 20 at 18th as they both finished the tournament with 169 strokes. Playing as an individual, junior Misha Vega wrapped up the tournament with 173 strokes in 22nd place.

As a squad, the `Runners shot 320 (+32) on Tuesday, tying their best round of the season thus far. With a two-round total of 643 strokes (+67), the `Runners recorded their sixth-best 36-hole tournament score in CSUB's history. Bakersfield finished third overall, 15 strokes behind second-place Green Bay.

The `Runners wrapped up the fall portion of their schedule on Tuesday and will begin preparations for the spring. CSUB will return to competitive action Feb. 11-12 for Battle at the Rock in Riverside, Calif.
