`Runner Golf Headed To Chi-Town Classic

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The CSU Bakersfield golf team is ready to get back on the road as the Roadrunners prepared for their second plane trip of the season. After opening the year in Nebraska, CSUB will head to Chicago this weekend to take on the Chi-Town Classic hosted by fellow Western Athletic Conference member Chicago State.

The `Runners will compete in the two-day, 54-hole tournament, Oct. 8-9. The Cougars will welcome their visitors to Harborside International Golf Center, which received a $1.7 million bunker renovation in 2017. Harborside will prove an interesting test of skill as student-athletes fight with the Windy City elements.

"We learned a lot in our last tournament and have been working hard to correct some of the mistakes we made," said Meghan Thomason, CSUB's Director of Golf. "Harborside will be a good test of golf. I'm looking forward to a change in scenery and conditions."

The `Runners qualified the same group of five to compete in Chicago as they have the first two tournaments of the season. Juniors Macey Mills and Vanessa Watkins look to continue to pace the `Runners this week. Redshirt seniors Sarah Scheidt and Jenni Chun will join up with freshman Juliana Gomez to round out CSUB's scoring five. Junior Misha Vega also worked her way into the mix and will compete as an individual for the first time this year.

The Chi-Town Classic will take place on Harboside's Port Course. A shotgun start at 9 a.m. (CT) will kick off both days of competition. Results and a full recap from each day of golf will be posted here at GoRunners.com.
