`Runners To Compete Against UCSD This Weekend at Loyola Marymount

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The CSU Bakersfield men's swimming and diving team will look to get back into competing when they travel to Los Angeles on Saturday, Jan. 6 for a dual meet with UC San Diego.

"UCSD has always been a close meet," said head coach Chris Hansen. "We are entering the BiG West with these guys and of course we want to show them and the other teams we can compete."

The men's swim team are no strangers to the UC San Diego team as they have competed against each other eight times since CSUB became a division 1 school back in 2007-08 season. However, in those eight times of meeting, the Tritons have been dominant and took home six team wins in a row since the 2011-12 season.

Besides the 11 `Runners that competed at US Nationals in Ohio at the beginning of December, the CSUB squad has not competed since the UNLV Invitational which ended Nov. 18. Bakersfield is feeling well rested and prepared to hopefully win the annual Triton -`Runner dual. Hansen went on to comment, "We are deep in our training camp and tired but we are stronger enough to step up. Kris Rogic, Jake Chir, Adam Estrella and Lovre Soric need to continue to dominate in their events while everyone else steps up for us to come back with a win"

CSUB's men's swim will travel with the women's team to Loyola Marymount, where all swim events will take place with a start time of noon. Both men and women dive events will take place at UCLA.

After the meet this weekend, the `Runners will get two weeks off before traveling to Fresno for a date with Fresno Pacific on Jan. 20 and then go on to take on UC Santa Cruz in their final home meet on Jan. 27.
