Roadrunners Set To Open Season at Utah Valley Hobble Creek Classic

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The 2017-18 season is about to kick off for CSU Bakersfield women's golf team as the Roadrunners are set to start at the Utah Valley Hobble Creek Classic. The two-day, 54-hole tournament hosted by Utah will take place in Springville, Utah, Sept. 11 and 12.

"The team is excited to get back at competing, we're hoping to pick up where we left off at the end of last season," said Meghan Thomason, Director of Golf at CSUB and Head Coach of women's golf team. "Our traveling five are feeling really confident in their game and what has been accomplished so far in practice and qualifying."

The course will feature a total of twelve teams which includes five of the teams being from the WAC: Utah Valley, Grand Canyon, New Mexico State, The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley and CSU Bakersfield. Coach Thomason feels fortunate to have many of the conference teams participating, "This year we are able to get an early look at quite a few WAC teams which is an asset to us this early in the season."

Thomason goes on to mention that this course is will have familiarity with some of the team and hopes to see improvement for the returners, "We are starting three seniors this week at the course where they played their first college tournament so there will be a lot of memories. It will be fun to compare numbers and see the improvement over the course of their careers." The `Runners will start off the 2017-18 with all returners from last season, three of them becoming a CSUB record holder last season: Ariel Lee (senior), Julia Stewart (senior) and Tori Peers (senior).

Teams will tee-off between 7:40-9:16 a.m. MT on Monday off holes one and 10. A shotgun start will begin Tuesday's action at 8:00 a.m. MT. The teams will play two rounds of golf on Monday and one on Tuesday to wrap up the final 18 holes. Unfortunately, live stats will not be available for the Utah Valley Hobble Creek Classic due to limited internet and cell service because the course is located in the mountains.
