PALM DESERT, Calif. – CSU Bakersfield women's golf team came out firing at the Wyoming Cowgirl Intercollegiate at Classic Club's Par 72 course on Saturday morning.
Senior
Ariel Lee finished tied for 16
th after the morning round with a five over 77. Lee had 13 pars, five bogeys and did a great job of avoiding the big number. Double bogeys or worse really can send your round into a tailspin quickly and Lee avoided those all morning. Lee followed up her 77, with an even better round in the afternoon, a four over 76. The senior bogeyed her first hole of the afternoon, but was able to card two birdies after zero in the morning round. Her consistency puts her in a tie for 13
th heading into tomorrow's final round and only sits one shot back of finishing in the Top 10 at this point.
Senior
Tori Peers shot a `Runners team best four over 76 in the morning round, despite having a double bogey on her first hole of the tournament. After the double, Peers had 15 pars and only two bogeys the rest of the round. After the first round was completed, Peers was in a tie for 12
th heading into the afternoon round. After a solid 76 in the morning, the senior shot 84 in the afternoon and tied for 33
rd going into tomorrow. The senior did birdie her sixth hole of the afternoon, the Par 3 12
th, but was never really able to recover from a rough start to her round. Peers was seven over after four holes, but on the bright side, she did play the remaining 14 holes at five over and that momentum will hopefully carry over to the final round tomorrow. Also, Peers is only two shots back of finishing in the Top 25 and if she could get some help and shoot a solid round herself, she could sneak into the Top 20.
Macey Mills, Sophomore from Bakersfield, shot a five over 77 in the morning round, which put her in a tie for 16
th. Mills finished with one birdie, 12 pars, four bogeys and a double bogey, but really played well after bogeying two of the first three holes of the tournament. Similar to Peers, Mills had a good morning round, but could not carry it over to the afternoon. The sophomore shot 87 (+15) in the afternoon and just like Peers, her birdie was on the 12th hole as well. Mills heads into the final round in a tie for 50
th.
Julia Stewart, a Senior from Bakersfield, shot 86 (+14) in the first round which put her in 65
th place going into the afternoon 18. Stewart did birdie the par 5 18
th hole, her 10
th hole of the day (she teed off on hole nine because of the shotgun start). Stewart was able to best her morning round by two strokes in the afternoon session, by shooting 84 (+12). The senior got out of the gate flying with an opening birdie on the Par 5, 540 yard ninth hole. And if you take away the two double bogeys and the one triple, the senior really played a great round of golf in the afternoon. Stewart is tied for 62
nd heading into the final round tomorrow.
Senior
Deedra Dollesin shot 88 (+16) in the first round and just like Stewart, Dollesin also had a birdie. Dollesin birdied her 10
th hole of the morning, the par 4 first hole to help get her into a tie for 66
th heading into the afternoon round. The senior, just like Stewart, had a better afternoon round than a morning round. Dollesin shot 87 (+15) during the second session today and that is all you are looking to do in golf, improve each and every round. Dollesin had another birdie, but had five double bogeys and if you take those doubles away, she really played a solid round of golf in the afternoon. Dollesin will head into the final round in 70
th place.
CSU Bakersfield shot a team total of 316 in the morning round which tied them for 10th heading into the afternoon session. The `Runners shot 331 in the afternoon for a total of 647 after two rounds and that places the `Runners in 10
th place in the 12 team tournament.
The `Runners final round will tee off at 7:30 a.m. tomorrow morning.
