Four 'Runners Shoot In 70s To Wrap Regular Season

ARROYO GRANDE, Calif. – CSU Bakersfield's men's golf team wrapped up the regular season with one final round of golf at the Cal Poly Shootout on Tuesday. Senior Izzad Ibrahim led the way with a four-over-par 76 while a total of four Roadrunners shot in the 70s to close out the tournament.

“The team fought their way through tough, wet conditions,” said Meggan Bunker, CSUB's Head Coach. “We had a drizzle, if not rain, for a lot of the tournament. It was a great preparation for Conference next week and we are looking forward to a few more days of hard work at practices. We're looking forward to playing great in Arizona at the WAC Championship.”

Ibrahim, a native of Malaysia, carded a pair of birdies on his way to a final-round score of 76. Freshman Dominick Hoover and junior Nathan Green were two strokes behind their teammate while Warren Miller was the fourth 'Runner to shoot in the 70s with a 79. Junior Garry Cai posted his best 18-hole score of the tournament in the final round with an 81.

CSUB's five-man score of 392 in the final round was the highest of the tournament, but only by a slim margin as the 'Runners were fairly consistent all week. Bakersfield finished ninth of nine teams in their first six-count-five format tournament of the year.

On the tourney, Green led the 'Runners with a 54-hole score of 225 strokes (+9). The native of Green River, Wyo. tied his second-best three-round tournament score of the season and continues to lead all CSUB scorers.

Just three strokes behind Green on the tourney was Ibrahim, who came into the clubhouse at 228 (+12), his second-best result of the season. Miller was third at the Cal Poly Shout for CSUB at 230 while Hoover was fourth at 235. Cai rounded out the CSUB scorers with a 54-hole total of 250 strokes.

UC Santa Barbara ran away with the team title at 1058 strokes, cruising past second-place UC Irvine by 34 strokes. UCI's David Kim birdied his final hole to win the tournament by one stroke with a 54-hole total of 208 strokes (-8).

The Roadrunners have concluded the regular season and will return to postseason action, Apr. 28-30, at the Western Athletic Conference Championship. The three-day, three-round tournament will be held at Longbow Golf Club in Mesa, Ariz.
