Big Weekend On Tap For `Runners Wrestling Squad

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The biggest non-conference weekend of the year is here for the CSU Bakersfield wrestling team. The `Runners will host two top 25 teams on Friday night in a tri-dual and then host the Roadrunner Open on Sunday.

First, on Friday, Nov. 17 at 4 p.m. the `Runners will have a meet against No. 25 Pittsburgh and then follow that up with a dual against No. 18 Wisconsin starting at 7 p.m. Pitt & Wisconsin will be the third and fourth nationally ranked programs CSUB has wrestled in a row.

"We are excited to host Pitt and Wisconsin," Manny Rivera said, CSUB's wrestling Head Coach. "They are two very tough programs and we are looking to really prove ourselves against them. Also, it will be nice to wrestle in front of our home crowd after being on the road the last couple weeks."

On Sunday, Rivera's team is going to be facing some stiff competition and CSUB's Head Coach is excited to see his squad wrestling in this type of format.

"It is great to have the Roadrunner Open back in Bakersfield," Rivera said. "It will give all our fans a chance to see our team face some of the best in the country at home. The Roadrunner Open is poised to be a very tough tournament with three teams from the Big 10 coming in to compete and many of the regional teams as well. It will be a great chance for our guys to compete in a tournament format and see how they do wrestling multiple matches in a single day."

Here is the list of schools competing in the Roadrunner Open alongside CSUB with first match kicking off at 10 a.m. in the Icardo Center.
