BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – During Friday's CSU Bakersfield "Basketball Rally and Luncheon" at The Icardo Center, the CSUB Athletics Department announced Kern Schools Federal Credit Union ("Kern Schools") would be continuing and enhancing its support of student life at the University.
As part of a new partnership with CSU Bakersfield, Kern Schools secured the naming rights for one of the computer labs at "The Kegley Center for Student Success." This donation goes beyond simple naming rights, and is designed to help the Athletics Department better the educational lives of its student-athletes.Â
Kern Schools is an active and long-time supporter of CSUB Athletics. Kern Schools' President/CEO, Steve Renock, explained why they wanted to partner with the Roadrunners on this project at Friday's Rally stating, "With our roots in the education of Kern County, we think this is a natural fit. The country is taking notice of what is happening here in Bakersfield and we at Kern Schools are thrilled to be a part of it."
Renock also announced the recipients of this year's "Kern Schools' Scholarship", given to student-athletes who attended a Kern County high school, are currently majoring in liberal studies or business at CSUB, and excel in both competition and classroom performance. This year's Scholarship winners are: Coleman Hammond, wrestling; Matt Ramos swimming and diving; and Angel Valdez, cross country.
On top of generously donating to CSU Bakersfield, Kern Schools remains committed to education in our community. Much like CSUB Athletics, Kern Schools is dedicated to providing opportunities for students and has a long-standing tradition of providing support for initiatives like the "Kegley Institute of Ethics" as well as other various academic programs.
CSUB's Director of Athletics, Kenneth "Ziggy" Siegfried, noted the importance of this generous gift by saying "Kern Schools Federal Credit Union has been a long-time supporter of CSUB Athletics and has played a major factor in the growth of our Athletic Department and University. This contribution further helps our student-athletes in their education. Kern Schools has a motto, 'Together, we have something special', and I could not agree more."
