`Runners Wrap Up The Weekend In Palm Desert

PALM DESERT, Calif. – The Roadrunner women's golf team wrapped up the Wyoming Cowgirl Intercollegiate with continued improvement as CSU Bakersfield lowered its score by 13 strokes from the second to the final round.

"I'm really pleased with Ariel's tournament," said Meghan Thomason, CSUB's Director of Golf. "She played solid when we needed a good score. Macey bounced back like I thought she would, she has grown tremendously as a player in the last year"

Senior Ariel Lee paced the `Runners on the tournament with a three-round total of 231 strokes (+15). The senior tied for eighth-best 54-hole individual score in CSUB history and tied 13th overall in Palm Desert. Macey Mills, a Bakersfield native, came in nine strokes back at 240 to finish tied for 35th.

Coach Thomason went on to discuss how the rest of the tournament shaped up as the `Runners season continues, "I still feel positive about the way things are going for us this year. I know we will put three solid rounds together."

All five `Runners improved their final round with sophomore Macey Mills leading the third-round 76 (+4). While senior Ariel Lee, senior Tori Peers, and senior Deedra Dollesin all posted scores lower than 85 to round out the CSUB scoring four. Senior Julia Stewart also improved from her first two rounds and scored a tournament-low 85. The `Runners combined for a three-round total of 965 (+101). With improved scores each round, CSUB finished 10th of 12 teams.

Santa Clara won the team title with a three-round total of 898 strokes and Santa Clara's own, Kristin Le, won the individual title a score of 219 (+3).

CSUB will waste no time to prepare for their next tournament later this month. Bakersfield will head to the Cal Poly Invitational, Oct. 28 – Oct. 29, in Arroyo Grande, Calif.
