HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif.—The CSU Bakersfield beach volleyball season ended Friday at the Big West Tournament on the Beach Blvd. Courts.
The Roadrunners dropped a 3-2 decision to Cal Poly in the first round of the tournament. The Mustangs took both matches during the first flight in straight sets. The No. 1 Roadrunner team of Sydney Haynes and Carol Grasso won 2-0 before the No. 2 team of Jocelyn Rodriguez and Edithza Urias won in straight sets to tie the match.
The dual came down to No. 3 where the CSUB pair of Sophie Flemion and Kelsee Sawyer defeat Anna Gorman and Savannah Niemen 21-18 in the first set. The Cal Poly duo took set two by a 21-16 count. The Mustangs advanced in the tournament when Gorman and Nieman won 15-12 in set three.
The loss forced the 'Runners into the consolation bracket where CSUB lost 3-2 to CSUN in Friday's second match. The Roadrunners against played from behind as CSUB lost the four and five matches during the first flight. CSUN clinched the dual with a victory at No. 2. Haynes and Grasso (No. 1) and Sawyer and Flemion (No. 3) were victorious for the 'Runners.
CSUB ends the 2016 campaign with a 4-14 dual record.
