BAKERSFIELD, Calif.- Director of Athletics Kenneth “Ziggy” Siegfried has announced the extension of Dr. Roy Lafever as Faculty Athletics Representative (FAR) for CSUB Roadrunner Athletics. The new three-year term will begin at the conclusion of the 2015-16 season. This position is appointed by CSU Bakersfield President Dr. Horace Mitchell.

Lafever, a professor of chemistry at CSU Bakersfield, has served as FAR since 2013, assisting in the academic support of student-athletes, working closely with the Western Athletic Conference in verification of all-academic teams and working with faculty members as an advocate for CSUB student-athletes.

“Dr. Lafever has been a great supporter of our student-athletes and our academic mission in the department,” Siegfried said. “We are looking forward to his continued leadership in this area and we are happy that he has agreed to continue in this important role.”

During his time as FAR, Lafever has been a part of historic academic growth and performance by student-athletes. This past Fall alone, CSUB had 19 student-athletes named to the WAC All-Academic teams while the department managed to raise the cumulative GPA for student-athletes to 3.0 for the first time in history.
