HERMOSA BEACH, Calif.--Sophie Flemion (So., San Simeon, Calif., Coast Union HS) and Sydney Haynes (Fr., Vancouver, Wash., Evergreen HS) reached the semifinals to highlight Bakersfield's entry in the second USA Volleyball Beach Collegiate Challenge Pairs Tournament Sunday.

Flemion and Haynes opened the day by defeating Loyola Marymount's Ashley Maxfeldt and Anne Marie Taylor in three sets. In the quarterfinals, Flemion and Haynes earned a three-set victory over Skylar Dykstra and Jennie Frager of UCLA in three sets. Pepperdine's Emily Cook and Katie Messing earned a straight sets victory over the 'Runner duo in the semifinals.

Bakersfield entered four other teams in the tournament and all four lost both of their matches during the day.

The Roadrunners conclude the regular season next Saturday and Sunday at the Pac-12 Invitational. The tournament will be hosted by USC and be played at the Anneberg Community Beach House in Santa Monica.
