Bakersfield Enters Fresno State Kickoff Classic

BAKERSFIELD, Calif.--The Bakersfield softball team enters the Fresno State Kickoff Classic this weekend.

The Roadrunners (2-4) take on UC Santa Barbara (2-2) Friday at 9:30 a.m. before facing UC Riverside (0-4) at 2 p.m. Bakersfield began Saturday by playing Sacramento State at 9 a.m. and conclude Saturday by facing the Gauchos again at 11:45 a.m. The tournament concludes for the 'Runners on Sunday when Bakersfield faces the host Bulldogs (3-2) at 1:30 p.m.

The Gauchos defeated the Roadrunners 6-0 last Sunday in Santa Barbara. UCSB leads the all-time series 20-9. UC Santa Barbara went 2-2 at the Gaucho Classic last weekend. Arianna Palomares hit .462 for the weekend while Shleby Wisdom had two home runs and three RBI's.

The Runners and the Highlanders have played 90 times prior to this weekend. The teams will again play next week at UCR's tournament. CSUB leads the all-time series 67-21-1. The Highlanders went 0-4 at Arizona State's Kajikawa Classic last weekend. Dionne Anderson led the way for UCR with a .462 batting average, one home run, and three RBI's.

Fresno State leads the all-time series against the Roadrunners 5-1. Like UC Riverside, Fresno State lost to No. 7 Arizona State at the Kajikawa Classic last weekend in Tempe. The Bulldogs ended the weekend with a 3-2 mark. Fresno defeated UC Riverside, returning ACC Tournament champion NC State, and returning Southern Conference champ Appalachian State last weekend at ASU. Brenna Moss hit an even .500 for the tournament. Michelle Solomon drove in five runs while hitting .353 during the meet.

Bakersfield's Sydney Raeber was selected Western Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week for Feb. 3-9. Raeber, a sophomore outfielder and pitcher from Hanford, Calif., earned a pair of saves in four appearances last week. In the team's first game against, a 1-0 shutout, she entered in the top of the seventh with runners on first and second, fanned two Flyers and induced a line out to earn the save. She also drove in the game-winning run on a sacrifice fly to centerfield.

Raeber collected her second save of the year the following day against Dayton, throwing two perfect innings to close out the game. For the week, she posted a 2.17 ERA, allowing three runs on eight hits while striking out six. In 9.2 innings of work, she limited opponents to a .222 batting average.
