SANTEE, Calif.--The Bakersfield men's golf team finished sixth at the Carlton Oaks Western Illinois University Invitational Tuesday. The Roadrunners shot 985 (315-328-342) to finish 51 strokes behind the team winner, Omaha (934, 305-315-314).
Brett Kettler (R-Fr., Bakersfield, Calif., Liberty HS) tied for 17th (238, 79-76-83) with Oakland's Alex Turner to lead the 'Runners. Trevor Stan (Fr., Mission Viejo, Calif., Bakersfield Liberty HS) tied for 23rd with Darren Simons of St. Bonaventure (241, 72-79-90).
Jin Park (R-Jr., Burbank, Calif., Glendale CC) finished 33rd (261, 85-86-90). Dylan Lym (Jr., Evanston, Wyo., Evanston HS) tied for 44th (261, 85-86-90) with Carter Morrison of Western Illinois. Izzad Ibrahim (Fr., Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia) was 46th (263, 87-89-87).
Two Bakersfield players competed as individuals. Nicholas Browning (So., Bakersfield, Calif., Independence HS) tied for 41st (259, 89-81-89) with Carter Dornseif of IPFW. Matthew Deford (Jr., Bakersfield, Calif., Bakersfield College) tied for 48th (269, 92-89-88) with IPFW's Drake Devereux.
"We started well, and could keep momentum," said Bakersfield director of golf Greg Osbourne. "We beat a few teams and we are off to a good start."
The Roadrunners travel to the Cal State Fullerton Invitational in City of Industry, Calif. next Monday and Tuesday.
