'Runner Sand Volleyball Topped By No. 2 49ers

LONG BEACH, Calif. – Despite an impressive performance by the No. 1 pairs team of Mariah Alvidrez (R-So., Bakersfield, Calif., Liberty HS) and Shayna Guitare (Jr., Torrance, Calif., Pierce College), the CSU Bakersfield sand volleyball team fell to No. 2 Long Beach State 5-0 on the road on Tuesday.

Guitare and Alvidrez jumped out to a 19-14 lead in the first set against 49ers Tara Roenicke and Caitlin Ledoux in the No. 1 showdown. Long Beach State then rallied back to tie the set before winning the set 24-22 in extra time. The 49ers won the second set 21-15 to win the match 2-0.

With the loss, CSUB dropped to 4-5 in its inaugural season, while Long Beach State improved to 13-2 on the year.

CSUB will now prepare for its final tournament of the season as it will play in the USAV Invitational in Hermona Beach, Calif. on Saturday and Sunday. The 'Runners will play dual matches against Loyola Marymount, No. 4 USC and will have another rematch with No. 2 Long Beach State on Saturday. In Sunday, the 'Runners will complete in an individual pairs tournament.
