No. 13 Oregon State Defeats CSU Bakersfield 45-4

BAKERSFIELD, Calif.-No. 13 Oregon State (3-1, 1-0 Pac 12) defeated CSU Bakersfield (1-3, 0-3 Pac 12) 45-4 in a Pac 12 wrestling dual Saturday night in the Icardo Center.

Pat Rollins opened the dual with an upset of CSUB's Tyler Iwamura (R-Jr., San Diego, Calif., Santa Fe Christan HS) at 125 pounds. Iwamura Oregon State would win eight other matches including pins by No. 3 Mike Mangrum at 141, No. 18 RJ Pena at 157, No. 19 Ty Vinson at 174, and No. 4 Clayton Jack at heavyweight.

Adam Fierro (Fr., Bakersfield, Calif., Bakersfield HS) earned the lone CSUB victory at 165 pounds. Fierro posted a major decision, 11-2, over Cody Weishoff.

“We definitely wrestled one of the tougher teams that we're going to face all year long,” said CSUB head coach Mike Mendoza. “We were wrestling a team that was better than us on paper, but the expectation is for our guys to go out and fight. There were a few guys that did. We've had a different lineup every dual meet and I think we're going to continue to change that lineup because we have a lot of freshman. There are few guys that are out right now because of injuries, but that's not an excuse for our guys to not go out there and put up more of a fight. When you face tough teams like this, you don't really see our improvement as much.”

Next up for the Roadrunners is the Reno Tournament of Champions which will be held next Sunday, Dec. 18.
