Men's Golf Beats Northridge; Falls to Fresno State in Match Play

ARROYO GRANDE, Calif. - The CSUB men's golf team split a pair of matches Thursday in the opening two rounds of the Cal Poly/Lampkin Grip Match Play Championship at the Cypress Ridge Golf Course. The Roadrunners beat the Cal State Northridge Matadors in the morning session, 3.5-1.5, but fell to Fresno State, 2-3, in the afternoon.

Individual results were unavailable as play was suspended due to darkness. CSUB was one of four teams to finish their second round matches. Each team competes with five players, matching up against individual counterparts from the opposing team. There are five points available in each team match. If an individual match ends in a tie after 18 holes, each team receives half a point.

Despite falling to end the day, the 'Runners were satistfied with their individual results.

"The Fresno State match really came down to the wire," said Head Coach Dave Barber. "We had numerous players under par for the day which was very good for us."

CSUB will take on either the host Cal Poly Mustangs or the Sacramento State Hornets in the final match on Friday. Cal Poly and Sac State will finish their second round match tomorrow morning at 7:45 a.m.
