Men?s Golf Battles Tough Course in San Diego

RANCHO SANTA FE, Calif. - The CSUB men's golf team finished its opening tournament of the 2010 spring season Tuesday at the Calloway Invitational hosted by the University of San Diego. The tournament, which was played at The Farms Golf Club (par 72), was won by the host Toreros who shot a combined 862, besting second–round leader SMU by three strokes. Bhavik Patel of Fresno State took the individual title with rounds of 69–70–69 to finish at 8–under par (208).

Junior James Moseley had the low round of the day, firing a 74. He finished in a tie with Jason Errecart, who shot 77 today, for 43rd place. Junior Levi Garcia shot a 76 Tuesday. As a team, the Roadrunners fired the lowest total of the tournament with a 306.

“We got a little more comfortable to the course today,” Head Coach Dave Barber said. “This is still probably the toughest course we will play all season. It is encouraging with the way we finished up today and I think everyone is looking forward to playing at home for our next tournament.”

The first installment of the CSUB Invitational begins on Monday, Feb. 22 at Seven Oaks in Bakersfield, Calif. The first two rounds will take place on Monday with the final round scheduled for Tuesday.
