Morrison Takes Home Invitational Crown

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - For the third consecutive round, junior Kyle Morrison found red numbers as he carded a 1-under par 71 Tuesday in the final round of the CSUB Invitational at Seven Oaks Country Club. Combined with his matching 3-under 69s in the first two rounds, Morrison cruised to a five-stroke win with a three–round total of 7-under par 209 (69-69-71).

Despite a 23 stroke drop off from second-round leader Cal State Stanislaus, the Roadrunners were unable to catch the Warriors who took the team title with a combined 868. CSUB picked up seven strokes on CSUS, shooting a combined 293 but the difference was just too much to overcome after the first two rounds. Following Stanislaus and Bakersfield in the team standings was Western Washington who shot the low team round of the day with a 291.

Junior Levi Garcia tied for seventh overall with a 75 in the final round (70-73-75=218). Classmate Daniel Petta shot a 1-over 73 as he tied for 15th (75-74-73=222_. Jason Errecart tied for 35th and joined Petta as the only counting Roadrunners to improve their scoring with each progressing round (78-77-74=229). Junior James Moseley finished in a tie for 43rd with a combined 231 (74–80–77).

Playing as individuals, junior Kirk Harper finished in a tie for 30th (78-74-76=228) and freshman Matt Hammons shot a third-round 74 to tie for 35th (79-76-74=229).

CSUB heads to the UC Riverside Braveheart Classic on Monday, Mar. 1, at the Oak Valley Golf Club.
