BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — Rachel McCall, Stephanie Donnelly and Victoria Kreutz each picked up a pair of individual wins in CSUB's women's swim 153-140 loss to UC Davis Saturday.
McCall won the 100 breast in 1:06.33 and the 50 free in 24.48 and added an impressive 1:52.69 leadoff in the 800 free relay, while Donnelly claimed the 100 back in 1:00.02 and the 200 back in 2:07.53. Kreutz, meanwhile, dominated the springboard diving events, winning the one-meter with a score of 257.76 and the three-meter with a score of 2:61.96.
The Roadrunners also got a first-place finish from Rachel Holm in the 200 IM. Holm added a second-place, 1:09.85 time in the 100 breast and a second-place 2:28.75 time in the 200 breast, just behind the Aggies' Lisa Bender who won the event in 2:28.31.
Sarah Smith placed second in the 100 back in 1:07.67 and shaved four seconds off her best 200 back time, finishing in 2:20.88, while Lacey Payne nearly hit her season best in the 200 fly, placing third in 2:18.75. Olivia Ramos also stepped up with a season best 5:22.72 in the 500 free.
“We took a lot of risks with fast starts and came out ahead more than we should have, but it really showed our confidence level is going up,” said CSUB Head Coach Pat Skehan. “We were 10 times better than last week and while the second half of meets is usually where we excel, we also had a good first half today.”
The Roadrunners compete in a pair of dual meets next week, beginning with a double-dual with the men's teams at Cal State Northridge on Thursday. Both squads return to the Hillman Aquatics Center on Saturday to face UC Santa Cruz and San Jose State at 1 p.m.
