Roadrunners Place Fifth at Cal Poly

NIPOMO, Calif. - The CSUB men's golf team finished in fifth place at the Firestone Grill College Invitational at the Monarch Dunes Golf Course in Nipomo, Calif., on Tuesday. The Roadrunners had a six–stroke improvement between rounds two and three, firing a combined 291 in the final round. Host Cal Poly won the event by seven strokes over Cal State Fullerton. San Diego State's Tyler Morris captured the individual title, shooting a 3-under-par 68 in the final round for a four–stroke victory.

Junior Levi Garcia was CSUB's top finisher, carding a 1–over-par 72 on Tuesday to finish in a tie for 13th place. Junior Kyle Morrison finished in a tie for 18th place with a combined score of 220 (+7). James Moseley shot the team's low round of the tournament with a 70 on Tuesday. He also carded the team's lone eagle of the day and finished in a tie for 22nd (+9).

“We played better as the round progressed today,” Head Coach Dave Barber said. “It's become a trend recently that as a tournament progresses, we play better. We just need to get off to better starts and build from there. We are going to get back to practicing these next couple weeks and prepare for our next meet.”

CSUB will take a couple weeks off before closing its fall season on Monday, Oct. 26, at the Bill Cullum Invitational hosted by Cal State Northridge.
