IRVINE, Calif. - The CSUB women's cross country team opened its 2008 season Saturday morning at the Asics/UC Irvine Invitational. The young Roadrunner squad finished 14th, led by senior Christa McCann who finished 81st in 19:56.80.

Katherine Patrick was the second placer for CSUB, finishing the 5K course in 20:21.20. Freshman Ashley Nolasco finished fourth on the team in her first collegiate race behind junior Lina Nu?ez. Senior Felicia Jasso, freshman Judith Mata and junior Connie King also competed.

"This was a good meet for some of our younger athletes who were competing in their first collegiate meet," Head Coach Robert Boyles said. "Our veterans did a good job against some very fast competition. We will take the experience from this meet and learn from it."

CSUB is off next weekend but will return to action as they host the Roadrunner Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 20.
