RIVERSIDE, Calif. ? Junior Henry Holmberg claimed a pair of first place finishes while freshman Luka Leskur tallied two second place marks, but it was not enough as the CSUB men's swim team fell 106-188 to Cal Baptist Saturday in Riverside. The Lancers, the two-time reigning NAIA national champions, took first place in 13 of the meet's 16 events.
Holmberg picked up his first victory of the day in the 1000 yard freestyle, turning in a mark of 9:54.14. In the 500 yard freestyle, he held off Cal Baptist's Vincente Andrade for a 4:45.42 finish. Holmberg also earned a 1:57.56 second place finish in the 200 yard butterfly.
Leskur was the only other Roadrunner to win an event, out-swimming seven Lancer rivals for the top spot in the 100 yard backstroke, reaching the finish in a time 51.65.
Junior Sampo Sissala was second in the 200 yard freestyle, earning a 1:45.34 mark, while also earning a 48.64 third place finish in the 100 yard freestyle.
Seniors T.J. Whitaker and Alexy Belyy earned second and third place marks in the 100 yard breaststroke, and flip-flopped finishes in the 200 yard breaststroke. Sophomore Rene Hjorth also claimed a runner-up finish, swimming the 100 yard butterfly in a time of 52.25, just .08 seconds off the winning time.
The Runners take a long break from competition, returning to the pool on Jan. 27 to host a dual meet against UC Davis. That meet will be the first of three home events for CSUB to close out the regular season.
