Baguio's Third 69 Ties Him For 9th At OGIO

SOLVANG, Calif. – Cal State Bakersfield sophomore men's golfer Brady Baguio (Highland HS) fired a three-under 69 for the third consecutive round to earn a ninth-place finish at the OGIO Pacific Coast Intercollegiate Tuesday at the Alisal River Golf Course in Solvang.

Baguio's effort led the Roadrunners to a one-under 287 finish for the day. It was their second sub-par finish in the tournament. The tournament field was so strong, however, that even a season-best finish of nine-under 857 wasn't enough to crack the top 10 in the 18-team field. Bakersfield finished 11th.

Cal Poly shot less than 280 for the third consecutive round Tuesday, finishing at 277 for the day and 827 (–37) for the tournament to post a five-stroke victory over 36-hole leader Denver University. UC Irvine finished third at 840 while Oregon State (842) and San Diego (845) completed the top five. Washington State, tied with Bakersfield after 36 holes, turned in the low round of the day with a 12-under 276 to climb to sixth place.

Cal Poly's Chris Kirk carded a 68 Tuesday to forge a four-stroke victory over Russell Grove of Idaho. Kirk finished at 17-under 199. Grove fired the low round of the day with a 66. His was one of 18 sub-70 rounds the course yielded Tuesday afternoon.

In addition to Baguio's 69, junior Jacob O'Keefe (Visalia/Hanford HS) turned in a career-low 68 to finish in a tie for 53rd place at two-over 218. Senior Chris Kwon (Los Angeles/College of the Canyons), fifth after 36 holes, shot 74 and finished tied for 22nd at five-under 211.

The 'Runners return to action next week when they play at the Cal State Monterey Bay Invitational Apr. 9-10.
