SOLVANG, Calif. – The Cal State Bakersfield men's golf team went a season-low six-under par 570 to place 10th after 36 holes of the OGIO Pacific Coast Intercollegiate Monday at the Alisal River Golf Course in Solvang.
Bakersfield's eight-under round of 279 was its best single round of the season, bettering the 282 it posted at the CSUB Poor Boy Invitational at Seven Oaks Country Club in February. Gusty winds caused scores to rise across the board in the afternoon, and the Roadrunners posted a 291.
The University of Denver recorded the two lowest rounds of the day, scorching the links with rounds of 272 and 274 to finish a remarkable 30-under 546. Cal Poly shot 275 both rounds and trails by four strokes at 550. UC Irvine (560), Oregon State (561) and San Diego (563) round out the top five.
CSUB is tied for 10th place overall at 570, it's best 36–hole score of the season. The Roadrunners are tied with New Mexico State and Washington Staet entering the final round.
Individually, senior Chris Kwon scored in the 60's for the third time this season when he carded a 66 in the morning round en route to a seven-under 137 for the day. Kwon is tied for sixth place, six strokes behind Chris Kirk of Cal Poly, whose rounds of 64 and 67 put him at 13-under. Kirk leads Jeff Koprivetz of Denver by four strokes.
Bakersfield sophomore Brady Baguio fired matching rounds of 69 to finish at six-under 138. He is tied for 12th place. Mike Yates (Bakersfield College) finished the day at 147, Jacob Curtier shot 148 and Jacob O'Keefe finished play Monday at six-over 150.
