LONG BEACH, Calif. – The Cal State Bakersfield women's golf team tied a school record by shooting 364 in the opening round of the Concordia Invitational Monday at the Skylinks Golf Course in Long Beach. The Roadrunners are in fourth place, trailing leader Cal State
Monterey Bay (312) by 52 strokes entering Tuesday's final 18 holes.
Monday's 364 equals Bakersfield's first-ever round played at the Grand Canyon Fall Invitational on Sept. 25, 2006. It marks just the second time the 'Runners have scored below 370.
Freshman Meggan Bellows (Centennial HS) led the way with an 83, good for 10th place on the individual leaderboard, but the story of the day was a pair of 'Runners who set career lows. Junior Jennifer Haws beat her career best by two strokes when she carded an 84 while freshman Leslie Benson (West HS) matched her low round with a 105.
Other Bakersfield golfers to score Monday were Tamarin Wood who shot 92, and Emily Becerra (Centennial HS), who came in at 106.
Cal Baptist sophomore Jaymee Braun tops the individual leaderboard after shooting one-under 71. She leads Kierstan Capito of Cal State Monterey Bay by two strokes entering Tuesday's final 18 holes.
