BAKERSFIELD, Calif. ? The CSUB men's swim team picked up its first dual meet win of the season with a 165?125 victory over visiting UC San Diego at the Hillman Aquatics Center Saturday afternoon.
CSUB won nine of the 12 swimming events contested en route to the win. Junior Henry Holmberg and senior Alexy Belyy led the way with three events wins apiece for the Roadrunners. Freshman Luka Leskur chipped in a pair of victories. Leskur also swam leadoff for Bakersfield's victorious 400 medley relay team to give the Roadrunners an early lead they would not relinquish.
Holmberg's first win came in the 1,000 free where he beat Belyy by 18 seconds with a solid early?season time of 9:38.88. Holmberg also cruised to victory in the 200 butterfly in 1:54.53, beating teammate Michael Schwartz to the wall by nearly five seconds. He closed out his treble with a 14?second victory over teammate Nathan Vizacarra in the 500 free, finishing in 4:36.18.
Belyy notched his first win of the day by going 59.62 to hold off UCSD's Brandon Maryatt in the 100 breaststroke. He came back to add victories in the 200 breaststroke (2:10.27) and 200 individual medley (2:00.52).
CSUB will take two weeks off before hosting UC Santa Barbara on Nov. 17.
